Wrap-Up: 2023 LDE GMD Conference |
On April 5th, 2023, a host of over 100 attendees shuffled into the Balszaal at the Hotel New York to mark the opening of the 2023 LDE GMD Conference. The conference, situated in one of Rotterdam's most historic landmarks, explored - from a host of angles - how cities can best prepare for a future characterized by high levels of mobility and a deepening of diversity. |

Whole-COMM Project celebrates new publications |
In April 2021, the Horizon2020 project Whole-COMM kicked off. Prof. dr. Peter Scholten, dr. Maria Schiller and Ph.D. Candidate Elina Jonitz (LDE GMD affiliates) represent the Erasmus University Rotterdam as one of thirteen project partners involved in the three-year research project. Within two years since the start of the project, the research team has published three country reports, one comparative working paper, and one policy brief.

LDE GMD Fellow Lore van Praag (EUR) pens a blog with Amal Miri & Kaya Klaver (University of Antwerp) about the different interpretations of the concept of gender empowerment. Despite the many steps that governments and civil society organizations are taking all over Europe, the (diverse) views of women themselves are not involved enough and (the interests of) certain groups such as people with a migration background are often forgotten. |

CfP for ECREA Conference "Transnational families and media practices: methods, ethics and critical approaches" |
The CfP has opened for the ECREA conference, set to take place in December 2023. The session is a joint midterm conference of the Media, Diaspora and Migration section and the International and Intercultural Communication section. The CfP deadline is April 28th, 2023. |

Successful Alumni Day organized by GMD Student Board |
On 15 March, the GMD Student Board was thrilled to host 11 recent GMD alumni for an evening Career Panel. This hybrid session brought together alumni from around the world, with panelists joining in from Ghana, Canada, and Germany, as well as in-person at ISS.

'Making an impact in the neighbourhood depends entirely on the students themselves' |
During the kick-off meeting on Wednesday 29 March, master students affiliated with the Thesis Hub The Hague South-West presented their thesis ideas to stakeholders from the neighbourhood. Students were challenged to make their research understandable to a wider audience and encouraged to think critically about their thesis design from a practical point of view.
