Creating Resilient Cities

This 30 EC programme, in which we work together with our Municipal Government and local partners, is based on our port city's Resilient Rotterdam Strategy 2022-2027. Our Autumn edition with around 20 exchange students has just concluded, and the Spring version has just started. Over the past years, we have been privileged to receive a large number of incoming exchange students.

Programme orientation
The programme is offered by our School of Built Environment, and staffed by lecturers from various departments such as Architecture and Building Engineering, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Facility Management & Water Management. It is fair to say that we have a multi-disciplinary group of lecturers. Our student population is even more diverse. While the majority of incoming students are from a technical or planning background, we have in the past also accepted several students with a background in arts, economics, or other various disciplines. We pride ourselves on being a programme that embraces resilience for all (professional) backgrounds, and have found that students enjoy this and can gain surprising insights from cooperating in this manner.

Semesters & Housing
We welcome exchange students every semester, with a maximum of around 30 available each term. From what previous exchange students have told us, finding housing during the Autumn semester can be a challenge in Rotterdam. For Spring term however, this problem seems to be non-existant. For this reason, we would recommend dividing your students between the semesters when sending them to Rotterdam on exchange, to increase the chances of housing availability. Of course, that is only an option when this fits in with their study programmes. If you plan to send students for Autumn, they are strongly advised to start their house hunting early.
