We look back on a successful Utrecht Marathon powered by Utrecht Science Park last Sunday, with over 10,000 runners and many enthusiastic spectators along the beautiful course with start and finish at the Utrecht Science Park! The winners of the half marathon Tim Tesselaar and Lysanne Wilkens and the winners of the full marathon Maikel Stolwijk and Tine Zweers delivered a top performance, congratulations were of course due to all runners! |

Geert Kops new director of Hubrecht Instituteert

Molecular cell biologist Geert Kops will become the new director of the Academy’s Hubrecht Institute as of 1 September. Prof. Kops is currently a group leader at the institute. He is also scientific director of the Oncode Institute and a professor of molecular tumour cell biology at the UMC Utrecht. |

Their findings provide very valuable leads for cancer treatment and prevention. The results of their two studies have now been published in the leading scientific journals 'Nature' and 'Nature Genetics'. |

Head and neck cancer organoids as a step towards personalized treatments

Researchers from the Organoid group (Hubrecht Institute) and UMC Utrecht have developed a biobank with organoids derived from patients with head and neck cancer (HNC). They used this biobank to validate known HNC biomarkers and found that treatment responses in the organoids matched those seen in patients. |
