Welcome for Ukrainian children in the Princess Máxima Center |
Twenty-five Ukrainian children with cancer and their parents/carers arrived tonight (Monday) at the Princess Máxima Center in Utrecht. They traveled on a special Corendon flight from Poland. After a medical check, the children will go to their host family. In the coming days, their cancer treatment will be resumed and continued at the Máxima. |

€1.2 million for groundbreaking genetics research |
Utrecht University's Omnes Pro Uno (OPU) research group is one of two winners of the Ammodo Science Award for groundbreaking research 2022. This was announced today by the Ammodo Foundation. The team receives a cash prize of 1.2 million euros that can be used to explore new research areas. |

Construction of new Utrecht Science Park – Veenendaal cycle through-route begins |
The Utrecht Science Park – Veenendaal cycle through-route, named Via Regia, is one step closer to becoming a reality! The signing of the cooperation and realisation agreement by the province of Utrecht, Utrecht University and the participating municipalities of Utrecht, Utrechtse Heuvelrug, Rhenen and Veenendaal marks the first step in the realisation of this bicycle route: one of nine cycling through-routes to be constructed by the provincial authorities. |

The Framerunner helps children with physical disabilities to walk and run, even without any assistance. Three ERC Consolidator Grants for Utrecht-based researchers |
Two researchers from Utrecht University and one from the Hubrecht Institute have been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant. The grant from the European Union enables researchers to further extend their scientific endeavour and consists on an average 2 million euro. The laureates at Utrecht University are Tobias Stark (Faculty of Social Sciences) and Markus Weingarth (Faculty of Science). The Hubrecht Institute’s laureate is Marvin Tanenbaum. |

Soest-based MycoTEX, a UU spin-off, makes circular clothing from mushrooms |
Clothing made from mushrooms: a circular start-up from Soest called MycoTEX is making it possible. The company has developed a groundbreaking production technology for the fashion industry based on the biomaterial mycelium, the root-like structure of a mushroom. This is serious business, because the approach enables MycoTEX to create clothing and accessories using far less energy, water and chemicals than are needed for those made from textile or leather. |

Hubrecht Institute: Intestinal cells change functions during their lives |
Intestinal cells can change specializations during their lives. The BMP signaling pathway – an important communication mechanism between cells – appears to be the driver of these changes. That is wat scientists from the groups of Hans Clevers (Hubrecht Instituut) and Ye-Guang Chen (Tsinghua University, Beijing) have concluded after research with organoids and mice. |
