Watch the aftermovie of Utrecht Science Week! The second edition took place from 30 September through 7 October 2022. It was an inspiring week with current themes, highlighted by more than 100 speakers at 15 different locations. Including the Betweter Festival and the Science Weekend, more than 8,000 interested parties visited the various parts of the programme. |

Discount campaign for climbing the Dom Tower or going on a Utrecht city walk |
We are celebrating Utrecht’s 900th anniversary in 2022, with the theme “City Without Walls”. In this context, during the past Utrecht Science Week, a discount of 50% was offered for people who wished to climb the Dom Tower (by taking the stairs) or take a city walk through Utrecht with a guide. This is a great opportunity to experience the history of the city itself. The promotion will remain valid until 31 December 2022. |

Public announcements such as those of the NS (Dutch Railways) are a good way of conveying relevant information to a large group of people in one go. But what if you are deaf? Researchers from HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, among others – together with the Accessibility department of the NS – have been working on a system that displays public announcements in Dutch Sign Language by means of an avatar. An initial prototype is now available. |

USP partners go for collective thermal storage installation |
Utrecht University, University Medical Center Utrecht, HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, SSH and the International School Foundation have signed a collaboration agreement for the joint creation of a shared thermal energy storage system. With this installation, a large proportion of their buildings on Utrecht Science Park will be heated and cooled sustainably in the future. |

Princess Máxima Center launches collaboration with Greek paediatric oncology centre |
The Princess Máxima Center for paediatric oncology is entering into an official collaboration with the Elpida Pediatric Oncology Unit of the Aghia Sofia Children's Hospital in Athens in the field of paediatric cancer research. As the namesake of the Princess Máxima Center, Queen Máxima was present at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two centres. |

Education for refugee students at UMC Utrecht |
Ezekwu Precious Kemakanma from Nigeria travelled to Ukraine in 2015 to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor. War broke out shortly before he graduated, and he fled to the Netherlands. Thanks to a new education pilot for refugee students, Ezekwu and four other medical students were able to obtain the necessary credits at University Medical Center Utrecht to receive their medical degree in Ukraine. |

Every Thursday, Olympos offers a free bootcamp class for employees of Utrecht Science Park from 12.30 p.m. – 1.15 p.m. This is now being joined by a second free class, every Tuesday from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. The classes are suitable for all levels, as the trainer will tailor them to your current fitness level. Location: Bootcampplein at Leuvenlaan, near the Educatorium. |

Tree planted in honour and memory of Queen Elizabeth II

In honour and memory of Queen Elizabeth II, the British Ambassador Joanna Roper and King’s Commissioner Hans Oosters planted a beautiful Tamarix africana tree in the new Evolutionary Garden of Utrecht Botanic Gardens in the presence of Margot van der Starre, Vice-Chair of the Executive Board of Utrecht University. The tree was planted in the context of “The Queen's Green Canopy”. |
