Minister Kuipers opens intra-operative MRI OR
During a festive opening by Minister Ernst Kuipers of Health, Welfare and Sport, the intra-operative MRI operating room at the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital (WKZ) was officially inaugurated. The IO MRI-OK is a collaboration between the Princess Máxima Center and the UMC Utrecht. This special operating room is for children with brain tumors.

HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht is developing biopesticides that only kill pests
We need pesticides in order to be able to grow sufficient amounts of affordable food. The problem is that they not only kill the pests, but also useful insects. This is why we are now making pesticides that only kill the pest insects. As an added advantage, these pesticides are biodegradable, so they are better for the environment.

Prolira developed together with Van Merkerk and Willems Deltascan
The Utrecht start-up Prolira is a spin-off of UMC Utrecht. At the hospital they discovered that it was possible to diagnose a delirium within one-and-a-half minutes using an EEG (brain scan) with only three electrodes. That is much faster and easier than with the usual method.

Construction of student apartment complex High Five about to start
At the beginning of 2023 the construction of High Five, the fifth student apartment complex in Utrecht Science Park, is about to start. The building will accommodate 921 residents and feature communal facilities such as a laundrette, study spaces and an enclosed garden. Construction is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2023 and should be completed in early 2025.

Utrecht University stays best Dutch broad classical university
In the 'Keuzegids' (Selection Guide) 2023, 20 Bachelor's degrees are rated best compared to similar programmes at other Dutch universities. In addition, 17 UU Bachelor's programmes receive a quality seal 'Top programme'. At the institutional level, Utrecht ends in first place in the ranking of six Dutch broad classical universities, just like last year.

Mission 538 for Princess Máxima Center
From Monday December 19 to Friday December 23, the DJs of Radio 538, listeners, friends of the station, companies and other organizations will be in action to collectively raise as much money as possible for Princess Máxima Center. This is the third year in a row that Radio 538 has committed to charity with Mission 538 in the days before Christmas.

Oncode-PACT: accelerating cancer treatments through close collaboration
A significant portion of the potential anticancer medicines that reach the clinical phase do not make it to registration. This is a loss for patients, developers and society as a whole. Oncode-PACT aims to efficiently select the best medicine candidates in the preclinical phase, decreasing the risk and cost of failure and, ultimately, bringing anticancer medicines to the patient faster.

In order to improve the response to citizens’ questions in the fields of health and well-being, it is necessary for the domains of health and well-being to intensify and change the way they work together. HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht is contributing to this transition by adapting the education it provides for the 9,000 students of its 15 health and well-being programmes.

Registration reopened for 39th edition of Utrecht Marathon on Sunday 21 May 2023
After a period of postponement by Covid-19, the Utrecht Marathon powered by Utrecht Science Park will return to the running calendar in the spring of 2023. Entries have reopened as of today. Various distances will start on May 21, 2023, for all types of runners and ages. The start and finish are located at the Utrecht Science Park.

Giro d'Utrecht Saturday 20 May 2023 with start and finish on Utrecht Science Park
The 2023 edition is set to be a true Italian celebration with music, food and a friendly atmosphere. That applies to the entire route as well as the start and finish line. As you would expect from the Giro d’Utrecht, we have created some great signposted routes. This year, participants can sign up for a peloton tour or a gravel tour as well as the regular individual routes.

Research of Princess Máxima Center proves the benefits of concentration of surgery for children with cancer
Operating on children with neuroblastoma in one location in the Netherlands has led to better treatment results, according to a new analysis by researchers at the Princess Máxima Center. The procedure took less time and there were fewer complications during and shortly after the operation. The research proves the benefits of concentration of surgery for children with cancer.

Each Tuesday from 5.00-6.00 PM and each Thursday from 12.30-1.15 PM: BOOTCAMP at the outdoor bootcamp square
Each Tuesday and Thursday, Olympos offers a free bootcamp practice for staff working at organisations based at the Utrecht Science Park / Utrecht. Want to join in? There is a professional instructor and participation is free and open for everyone (you don't need to have an OlymPas)!

Winter closure Botanic Gardens
The Utrecht University Botanic Gardens will be closed from Thursday 1 December 2022 to 1 March 2023. USP employees can still enter the Gardens. Employees have free access to the Gardens (except from 26 December 2022 until 6 January 2023) via the revolving doors on weekdays. We will reopen our doors to the general public at 10:00 am on Wednesday 1 March 2023.
