Assistant professor Cees Haringa

Hello DPTI-community! I recently (re)joined TU Delft as an assistant professor in bioprocess engineering.

My core interest lies in analyzing industrial bioprocesses from the microbial perspective: what (transient) environment do organisms observe in bioprocesses, how do they respond to this, and how does this impact process performance. I plan to use a combine (CFD) modeling and supporting hydrodynamic studies to assess and optimize the industrial environment, combined with novel downscaling methods to probe and model the microbial response.

I hold a chemical engineering degree and PhD (cum laude) from TU Delft, which focused on application of CFD in large-scale fermentation. Subsequently, I spent 3.5 years at the DSM biotechnology center as a modeling scientist. I’m eager to collaborate with DPTI colleagues, in model development and scale-down experiments, but also in contributing my expertise to e.g. wastewater treatment, food/pharma cell cultures and bioprocess/biorefinery development. Do you see collaboration opportunities? Let’s get in touch!
