Bioplastic technology obtains first investment round |
Paques Biomaterials received a first financing for further scale-up of their polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) production technology based on research with in the BT/EBT section.
The foundations for the process was developed within the VICI project from Mark van Loosdrecht (2002-2006). Over the years several PhD students have been working on the process converting organic waste into bioplastics. This was always in cooperation with Paques b.v..
In 2021 Joost Paques and Rene Rozendal (both former EBT master students) decided to set-up a new independent venture under the name Paques Biomaterials to commercially implement the production of bioplastics from industrial wastewater. This investment allows to build a downstream process facility in Emmen en make the next step in bring this bioplastic under the name Caleyda to the market. The next target is the financing and constructing of a full-scale production plant for 6000 ton/year in 2026.
