Effect of vibrational modes on fluidization characteristics and solid distribution of cohesive micro- and nano-silica powders |
Fluidization of powders with small particle sizes is typically troublesome due to their cohesive nature. These powders to not transition from a packed bed into a homogeneous fluidizing one upon the introduction of a gas flow. Rather, they tend to stay mostly stationary, forming vertical channels through which the gas can escape. Several methods have been studied to overcome this behaviour and initiate fluidization, one of which is vertical vibration. We hypothesized that a horizontal component of the vibration would be more effective in disrupting the channelling, since the vibration would work perpendicular to the channel direction. |

Clusterchange at Pro2Tech |
Pro2Tech is the research incubator for process and product technologies at TU Delft. It strengthens cohesion and cooperation between process technology researchers at TU Delft and our academic and industrial partners worldwide. Since its inception, the institute consists of 5 clusters, each focusing on a research field. Due to changing needs and interests, there are some upcoming changes in the clusters. For example, the Water Processing cluster will be transformed into Circular Water Systems. In addition, we will establish a new cluster on Data Science and Machine Learning in Process & Product Technology. What exactly this will look like is still being determined in close consultation with the new cluster coordinators, namely Dimitris Xevgenos (pict.1) for the Circular Water Systems cluster and Artur Schweidtmann (pict.2)for the Data Science and Machine Learning cluster. Once these changes take clearer shape, the Pro2Tech website will be updated and we will communicate this. |

QS Ranking by subject 2024 |
The QS World University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British higher education company. It is one of the most widely referenced international rankings for universities around the world. The rankings are based on various criteria such as academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, and international student ratio. These rankings provide insights into the relative performance of universities globally and are often used by students, academics, and policymakers to assess and compare universities across different countries. The list of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 was recently published and in it, to our pleasure, TU delft is highly ranked. Both 'over all' and in the Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering category TU Delft is ranked 3rd and in the Chemical Engineering category TU Delft is ranked 11th. These are the working areas of many of Pro2Tech's colleagues. |
