When it comes to the weather I’m as boringly English as they get (just like this bloody weather!). This on / off summer really plays to my weakness. So indulge me…

While the temptation may be to sink into a rainy-day grump, there has actually been some lovely sunshine over the past weeks. The city has hit its stride with pavements brim-full of alfresco diners, the murmur of happy chatting and clinking glasses. Team RB has been getting in on the act as often as possible, with a dinner on the buzzy terrace at English’s, cocktails with friends at GungHo and a visit to try the summer menu at The Jolly Sportsman.

The Jolly Sportsman’s Summer Fest is this weekend with live jazz, delicious food, garden games and wine tasting from our friends at The Secret Vineyard. Luckily the weather forecast is looking glorious which is also good news for On The Beach revellers and those attending the Worthing Fireworks (try CrabShack or Beach House for food with a view). For those seeking for a moment of escape, Saltdean Lido’s Deco is hosting a South of France Wine Dinner with a pairing menu of seafood delights on 31st July.

Tørsten recently soaked up the Riviera vibe at Malmaison in Brighton Marina, dining out on the FOMO Malmaison Brighton’s Bar & Grill Special Thursday Steak Night. With 50% off Flat Iron, New York Strip and Fillet options, Torsten and his date may have indulged in a little postprandial ‘yacht’ shopping after a slap-up meal.

Congratulations to Fourth and Church and Palmito for their inclusion in The Good Food Guide 2024’s 100 Best Local Restaurants. A few highlights from our week: Jude and Emma worked on a big Uber Eats shoot, eating (and filming) their way around some of the city’s best takeaways including Wabi Sabi, Social Board, FIKA, Yeastie Boys, BOOM! Bird, while I took my kid for afternoon tea at The Grand. (See the 160th-anniversary reel here).

Judging by visitor numbers to our Brighton Pride page, quite a few of you are already plenty excited. Plan your Pride weekend here and watch this space for a special newsletter next week. Graduates yet to graduate, check out these amazing menus and offers which celebrate you. Kids on holiday will love the free ice cream sundaes this week at Cin Cin (T&C’s). Celebrate National Cheese and Wine Day (25 July) at Brighton Cocktail Company or take a craft coffee workshop (26 July) at Helm before settling down to watch the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony.
